I was turning final at 10NM out of runway 08R at PHNL, when atc told me to go around and make right traffic. My question is: Should i have continued at runway heading until past the runway or immediately turn crosswind (In which case it is pretty much a right 360)?
I usually turn immediately to crosswind and then the ATC would sequence the traffic to follow. If there are no traffic while another plane still on the runway, I would extend my downwind
I didnāt know charts specified a go around procedure š
For me I would probably climb to pattern altitude while retaining the same runway heading, but if thereās a departing aircraft I would just turn to crosswind.
I personally would continue on runway heading until mid field. If they wanted you to do a 360 they should have said that.
My mistake, thinking of missed approach!
Apologies š
I generally wait until Iām above 400AGL before I make any turns.
You do? What FAR says that?
You have to continue with rny hdg and climb to 3000ft or higher. After you passed the rny turn right.
Otherwhise it is a ā360ā.
The expert advise here is amazing š
Different carriers have different altitudes. The one I am most familiar with is 500, so I go with that š
š Iām dying from these comments. The regulations are only a suggestion⦠right? Lol. Kids gotta do their research before they start posting their āopinionsā. š
By the way folks, you may want to check out what is published :
AIM 5-2-8 Instrument Departure Procedures (DP) - Obstacle Departure Procedures (ODP) and Standard Instrument Departures (SID)
- Unless specified otherwise, required obstacle clearance for all departures, including diverse, is based on the pilot crossing the departure end of the runway at least 35 feet above the departure end of runway elevation, climbing to 400 feet above the departure end of runway elevation before making the initial turn, and maintaining a minimum climb gradient of 200 feet per nautical mileā¦
⦠If an initial turn higher than 400 feet above the departure end of runway elevation is specified in the DP, the turn should be commenced at the higher altitude. If a turn is specified at a fix, the turn must be made at that fixā¦
*And remember, a DP or SID may have you doing something else. Hence the words āunless otherwise specifiedā
This is why I donāt offer my advice on these thingsā¦I know people who actually know the answers like you lot will burst out laughing with false advice others bring. So I just let experts like yāall answer XD
Respectfully, I get an enjoyment out of reading the responses. Itās always to have a good laugh every so often⦠or everyday on this forum.
Glad to hear that lol but Iāll play it safe and refrain.
