Over speed is 550kts GS
That is Ground Speed.
When you are flying on FL400 is ground speed higher than if you are flying on FL100?
Yes ground speed is almost always higher than airspeed.
Obviously.
No, it’s not.
+M.87 is, now.
How do you know?
M0.87 = 580kts
Not at altitude.
~35K+ M1.00= 573 KTAS.
The overspeed is in GS
Negative.
It is now M0.87, Ground Speed will vary.
If you go over 550 kn Ground speed you can get ghosted.
The violations will get you ghosted before anyone actually acts upon it.
The violation system for over speeding is in fact a replacement for the 550GS/FL400 advisory.
Okay, my bad then.
No big deal, now we just need to work on having different overspeed Mach numbers for different aircraft. 🙃
I am surprised that she isn’t flying FDS A318 !
Wrong. The 550GS rule under FL400 is still in effect.
If it is, it is made redundant by the overspeed warning and violations.
You still get violations even if above FL400, ask me how I know. 😎
There are two overspeed warnings that will give you violations:
- 350 IAS above 10,000 feet.
- Mach 0.87 above 10,000 feet.
