As a future feature, I propose the following idea:
A pilot wants to do a long haul flight and plans this a few days in advance. He is the captain.
This captain, through some system, has than the ability to request co-pilots. Co-pilots who want to fly part of this flight, can fill-in an agenda or logbook where they commit themselves to a time and period to fly a stretch.
When the day and time is there, the captain can depart on his long haul flight knowing that in 3 hours the next pilot will take over for a period of time.
This is a big feature, I realise that.
But how else are you going to fly a long flight? No pilot flies for 10 hours, right?
And yes, it has challenges as well:
how do the pilots communicate
what happens if a co-pilot doesn’t turn up
what rights to co-pilots have? Can they change the FPL?
I like the idea, but surely you could just do shorter flights?
For example, you might want to do LHR-DXB, but you don’t have the time, so you could stop off at Istanbul.
And then the next day you do Istanbul to Dubai
