On April 16th, 2019, a Bombardier Global 5000 jet owned and operated by the German Air Force was scheduled to fly from Berlin Schönefeld Airport to Köln-Bonn Airport after a routine maintenance check. On board were two pilots and one flight attendant.
Right after take off, the pilot reported massive control problems as it turned around the longitudinal axis almost uncontrollable.
The pilots managed to get back to the airport for an emergency landing. Both wings hit the runway during the landing due to the enormous turns and the airport was closed for a longer time afterwards.
A Plane Spotter managed to take some pictures of the landing showing the extreme difficulty the pilots faced even right before touch down:
What you can see in both pictures is that the roll spoilers of the airplane seem to be in a wrong position. With this setting, the extreme right turn is even intensified. You can also see how low the plane actually was during that turn.
Luckily, no one was injured. And one thing is for sure: This landing is one hell of a flying masterpiece.
