You did a flawless job, I didn’t challenge you too much but that’s because there wasn’t much time, but thanks for controlling and I’m confident that you will do well in your practical.

Hey,

Firstly, congratulations on passing your written exam and good luck with the continuation of your IFATC recruitment. My feedback begins below.

FEEDBACK: BAVA370 @ EDDT - 20TH APRIL 2020

  1. After taking off from the nearby EDCN, I requested transition through EDDT airspace. The transition altitude you cleared me at was spot-on, well done.
  2. You handled my “inbound for touch and go” request very well. All aspects were technically flawless. You gave me a pattern entry (in this case “enter right downwind”), put me onto the correct runway (taking into account winds and aircraft position), and then cleared me promptly remembering to add a direction onto your clearance correctly. Very good work.
  3. On my second pattern on runway 08R, you correctly did nothing more than clear me for the option. Remember: a controller should only give a pattern entry and direction if there is a runway change or if the aircraft is inbound.
  4. You handled my change to runway 08L very well. With a new pattern entry, it was clear where you wanted me to go. You then cleared me with a direction, correctly. One thing I will say is that your clearances (it wasn’t too bad before) were starting to become a little quick. Remember: clear aircraft on the crosswind phase of their pattern. On this pattern, you cleared me for the option as I was just turning crosswind.
  5. The next pattern you cleared me when I was on the upwind. I hadn’t even thought of turning crosswind before you issued this clearance. You did give me the correct command (no entry or direction) for the pattern, it was just a little too fast.
  6. You handled me informing you I was on “full stop” well. Having already cleared me (even if it was too soon), you didn’t have to clear me to land. Well done on that simple “roger.”
  7. At 65kn, I was told to exit the runway. I’d consider this controlled but be wary of issuing exit commands too early. Well done. You did tell me to turn right, knowing — as I was in a commercial Airbus A318 — the military gates would be of no use on my left. Good knowledge of the airfield.
  8. And then. A miracle. It was the first time I had ever joined a frequency advertised through an ATC tracking thread and seen the following happen. After I informed you of the fact I was “ready to taxi.” you sent me to an active runway. Everyone else has sent me to parking. Brilliant work!
  9. Well done on spotting my taxiing through the grass and on reminding me I had already been instructed to change frequency.
  10. And, you spotted my runway incursion (to be fair, a rather major one). Good work.
  11. After clearing me for takeoff, you promptly got me out of your hands with the [Frequency change approved] command button — knowing I was departing straight out.
  12. I respawned, at EDTT this time, in a Cessna 172. After requesting pushback, you told me to taxi straight away. Well done for knowing your aircraft characteristics.

That was, without flattery, possibly the best controlling I’ve had coming from a tracking thread. Great work all around! Just be a little slower with your final commands (e.g. cleared to land, cleared for the option, exit runway). You have excellent technical knowledge of procedure, it’s just about finding a timing system that works well for you.

Once again, good luck with the continuation of your IFATC recruitment. I’ll see you soon… on the Expert Server!

Thanks,
Patrick

Thanks for that very detailed feedback. I will definitely work on the timing for clearances. Again, thanks for your flight(s) and hope to see you soon in the sky. 😄

To the exit command: It should be given at 70kts or when the aircraft is stable on ground. 65kts were a good moment to send the message, wasn’t it?

Hey,

This excerpt from the IFATC manual completely confirms your decision. I am so used to going for 60kn that my mind has made that the new official policy.

Well done!

Thanks,
Patrick
