Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Airport (IATA: LPA, ICAO: GCLP), also known as Gando Airport, serves Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the capital of Gran Canaria island, Canary Islands, an archipelago and autonomous community of Spain located on the Atlantic coast of Northwest Africa.

Taxiway Usage

Airport Layout:

All Aircrafts from the Main Terminal and Remotes Stands Must continue their taxi on R12 - R11 and the turn left on Echo or continue straight to R2 to hold short lines. This is to avoid conflict for the traffic exits on runway 03L on S2 and S3.

Pushback procedures
  • All pushbacks need to must make at the reverse orientation to the runway configuration.

Example: Runway 03s in use Pushback facing to the South and vice-versa. Its simple and logic right?

  • Remember, don’t ask for pushback on Remote Stands. Start your engines and request taxi

Military Information
  • There is an airbase of the Spanish Air Force to the east of the runways. Beyond several hangars opposite to the passenger terminal, the Gando Air Base (Base Aérea de Gando ) contains ten shelters situated on the southern end of the eastern runway. They harbor the Ala 46 with [F/A-18 Hornets] or 46 Wing, composed of 462 and 802 fighter squadron, defends the Spanish airspace around the Canary Islands. It is one of the biggest and most important air bases of the Spanish Air Force and is unique for the wide variety of aircraft which it operates.

  • One of the biggest military exercise in the Gando Air base is the Ocean Sky

Participation: The Greek Air Force’s 343rd Squadron (F-16), Armée de l’air’s 31st Refueling and Transport Squadron (A330 MRTT), Luftwaffe’s 62nd Transport Wing (A400M), Aeronautica Militare Wing 14 (KC767), European Multinational Multipurpose Force (MMU) and other supporting units.
