Garuda Indonesia Boeing 737 MAX 8
Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia’s national airline, is headquartered in Jakarta, with its primary hub at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. By 2008, Garuda Indonesia was recognized as one of Southeast Asia’s leading airlines, providing both domestic and international flights. It is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, reflecting its global reach and high-quality service.
In December 2017, Garuda Indonesia took delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX 8, becoming the launch customer of the aircraft type in Indonesia. However, a few years ago, the airline temporarily grounded the aircraft. On July 19, 2022, Garuda Indonesia decided to return the aircraft to the lessor.
Garuda Indonesia Max 8 after 2022
After July 19, 2022, when Garuda Indonesia returned its Boeing 737 MAX 8 to the lessor, the airline no longer operated this aircraft type in its fleet. The decision was part of Garuda Indonesia’s broader restructuring and fleet optimization efforts, focusing on cost efficiency and operational stability. The airline has since shifted its attention to other aircraft types that better suit its current needs and market conditions, while continuously evaluating future opportunities for fleet expansion or modernization. Even though PK-GDA is no longer part of Garuda Indonesia’s fleet, this beauty has returned to the sky under SmartLynx Malta.
