This isn’t the first time this has happened, but I was on final after a 10 hour flight at RJTT and my game crashed 5 NM out from the airport.

In addition to what Noah has linked, if you are on an iOS device which is older than aprox. 2 years you might be experiencing crashing related to a memory leak in the app. The developers are aware of this issue are and working towards fixing it as soon as possible. In the meantime, plesure try the following workaround stated by one of the developers:
A workaround that could work in the meantime is to keep the camera pointing up while you’re flying so the terrain doesn’t refresh.
Cameras for that can be the tail cam pointing at the sky or freecam left where it is when activated since it won’t move)
Terrain code refreshes tiles when they are in view, is there are no new tiles to view, the code that causes the leak doesn’t run.
So you can take off, then in cruise, change to one of the cams above, and only switch back to the other cams when needed.
Some users have tested this and reported to us that they had some success.
As Cameron said, we’re hopefully going to be able to share more soon.

Hey Preston, this might be related to a known issue the developers have been investigating. There’s some information in this thread, including a couple ways to prevent it happening:
After a lot of investigation we are finally confident about the source of this issue. The root cause is in a 3rd party framework we use to perform requests to our servers (to download imagery and elevation tiles for example). We have reported the issue to the 3rd party but it might still take a while to get a fix.
In the meantime, we are attempting to find a workaround but it is a fairly delicate piece of code that is hard to change without potential side effects (adding more bugs).
We will re…
