Try Eagle County (KEGE), Aspen-Pitkin County (KASE), and Jackson Hole Airport (KJAC) 😁
First two are in Colorado and the last is in Wyoming.
Some bigger airports include KDCA (for the River Visual) and KLGA (for its short runways and interesting DEP/ARR procedures)
If you would like, I can PM you the departure and arrival schedules for each airport so you can find some realistic flights to do!
Trust me there are no fun flights in the us and also no challenging flights 🥴 its all generic
I’d say one of the more challenging airports would have to be either San Francisco or Chicago. On a normal day, fighting the crosswinds make for an interesting experience
I would recommend KEYW. KASE and KEGE aren’t challenge enough.
This technically is in the US. However, you can do the Alaska Airlines Milk Run. Several 15-30 minute flights all across the gorgeous scenery of Alaska.
KEYW is literally an island, thats not hard at all 😂
It has really short RW and terrible crosswind.
Anywhere in the US can be a route, as long as you are a good at crash landing. ;)
Almost 70% of airports have small runways, GA and Municipal.
I’m biased, but DCA has a super fun approach that you must check out
Try the LOC approach to RWY 18 at South Lake Tahoe. And fly there from Mammoth Yosemite… The Dash 8 is my aeroplane choice for this.
imagine forgetting that the rocky mountains exists :/
I love KSNA for the short runway.
I love the fun of being able to safely butter on the short runway and safely stop. I have never had a hard landing or had to go around at that airport.
Difficult/fun landings and fun takeoffs are at KSNA (totally biased)
One approach you have to fly at like 160-180kts turning onto final since you don’t want to miss the waypoints 😂
Plus full power takeoffs
That’s when you know it isn’t real life 😂
Lmao yea I guess
And I say partially because I fly the A320 into the airport the most, and it’s easyyyyy to butter.
True the A320 family does land well
But IRL you just gotta get the plane on the ground 😂
Well then you have never flown in Colorado or the Rocky Mountains lol
@Isaac_Crabtree I would suggest KEGE or KASE. There are plenty of small/bush airports around these two that are great for smaller aircraft. My home airport, KGWS, was once rated by the AOPA as the most challenging airport (large and small) in the US.
Have you even flown around Juneau or Aspen? Have you ever taken the time to fly around the Grand Canyon or the Appalachian Mountains? There’s much more in the US than just KJFK and KLAX, I suggest you go fly to some of the places I suggested if you think the US only has generic flights and airports. If you think the US doesn’t have challenging flights, I dare you to try the approach to Jackson Hole. I’d happily watch.
If you’re looking for a fun and challenging flight @Isaac_Crabtree, I’d say takeoff from 05V, fly to CO21, then go to C24, in the XCub. Bonus challenge: Fly through the valleys and try to stay below 10,000ft.
You can also do KSEA - PAJN (A.K.A. Juneau), or better yet, the entire milk run (that @Mattheus mentioned earlier). The approach to PAJN is really hard but really fun!
There’s also this place called Montana, there’s tons of small airstrips nestled in the mountains with awesome approaches!
