Fuel shortage

Hi guys,

I’m currently doing a flight from OMDB to EGLL. I have checked the fuel range and it says I am around 50 mins short of fuel! Is there anything I could do to land safely at London without any emergency landings!

Thanks,

Hey!

It may depend on how far into the flight you are. The further you are to your destination, the more fuel you burn and lighter your aircraft will be.

I am around ORER and I was planning to do an emergency fuel stop at LTFM but is there anyway I could avoid this emergency fuel stop?

Thanks,

Then I’m guessing you have about 4½ hours left? Guessing you may be able to cover that distance depending on the aircraft.

Take the point just before your star (on your flight plan) and press Act Leg, it will save fuel.

What is your current flight level?

My flight level is currently 32000 ft. My aircraft is also 773ER

Unless extremely heavy, 32000 is quite a low cruise level for the 777-300ER at that stage of the flight, would generally be 35000-37000 by that point.

Typically would be still at that altitude (32000) a quarter way into EGLL-VHHH and the like - generally the case in real life for that.

You should be using very little at cruising speed and altitude if correct.

What’s your current headwind? Maybe slow down or change direction out of wind until your happy you have the distance needed.

Or when you are on final just shut off one engine…😂 My Instructor did that to me on base but I only have 1 Engine 😐

What is your weight in kg at the moment? Might be able to help.

Hey guys!

Thanks for all your help! I didn’t want to take the risk so I did a fuel stop along the way. Next time I will make sure to fill at least 2 hours extra fuel before departure! Once again, thanks for all your help guys!

I was close to a similar situation yesterday coming home from Ilquait in 57. Had a bad headwind that put me close on fuel and caused me to take forever. I checked the Windy app and saw what FL the winds calmed down and dropped down to FL240 and cruised home that way. Had over an hour left when I got there and saved over a half hour in time. The winds up top can beat you up sometimes.

Hello, if you do a long haul again next time, some extra tips that I have are:

To stepclimb, it saves lots of fuel and I always do it when doing long hauls and when I do so I don’t have too many fuel problems

Sometimes it can be the wind too. If you have strong headwind you have to use more fuel to keep up with your desired cruising altitude. If you are having strong headwinds, try to change your cruising altitude because the whole sky does not have the same amount of winds

you cannot really do stepclimbs if you are sleeping for most of it.

You’ll prob have to use IFA for step climbs if you’re not able to do it yourself.

ah ok. how does IFA work?

True but if the flight is throughout the day I try to step climb
