I am doing a cargo flight from Tokyo to LA and I put in 11 hours of fuel for my 9 hour flight. The wind went from a tail wind to a crosswind as I am passing through the Pacific under Alaska. Is there any way to be more efficient with the fuel at cruise because I am now close to an hour short on fuel
Lower your cruising speed or adjust your altitude.

Step climb if you can, use flaps if you really need to.

Once I put in the minimum amount of fuel in a Boeing 747. Don’t worry, you might just get away with barely any left well in my case.

As you continue to fly, you will get lighter and your fuel remaining will increase :)

In the simulator it’s fine to use flaps, but this is never done in real life though as this will destroy the flaps dit to the high cruising speed.

That’s why I said “If you absolutely have to”…
