Frustration with those who use incorrect runways

I just wanted to get various opinions and a general consensus about this. I’ve noticed (especially at KLAX) that IF users have been using 25R for landings mostly all the time and 24L for departure even though in real life 25R is rarely used for landing, only when necessary, and 24L is closed for construction. So I wanted to know why some folks won’t view the real world ATIS to give it a true realistic experience. Also, does anyone know if real world NOTAMS can be used for situations like this? Not just airports restricting aircraft like KASE, but for KLAX mentioning 24L is closed due to construction so IFATC can’t assign it for takeoff. Thanks guys.

EDIT: Thanks for the replies, I should also note this is for expert server

If it is casual or training servers not much can be done. On expert if atc is present they could solve the issue.

Yea if this is on training or casual server then you’re out of luck. You can try and apply for IFATC if you want

Something like this is a great example of something that is temporary, so chances are most pilots won’t know about it

i mean as long as they’re departing/landing in the same direction as you (24’s n 25’s) it doesnt matter. even on expert server nothing can be done without ATC present. as long as they’re not making your experience less realistic which in this case they’re not, then it shouldnt matter.

I have had this issue with ATC as well (on the “expert” server). When i am an atc i check the real radar to see what runways are being used, same as whenever i fly.

17R/35L at DFW (my home airport) was closed for refurbishment for over a year (I believe). This changed the operations at DFW dramatically. 17C/35C was used for East bound departures, and all arrivals from the east landed on 17L/35R, a smaller runway originally only used during the busiest time of the day as a 3rd arrival runway. I would have appreciated a NOTAM, like at HAAB (Addis Abba). Since that project took years, not just a couple months. But nevertheless I watched folks depart from 17L/35R all the time, who probably thought I was crazy for departing from 17C/35C. I am happy that recently DFW re-opened 17C/35C, finally making DFW normal again! Just wanted to share :)

Correction it closed august 15 of 2023, so a little less than a year

IFATC are not required to use IRL operations. Whilst we try to when possible, sometimes it can make it harder for us. Soo, we do what’s easier.

👆Agreed. Especially when there are many inbounds and departures, using all available runways can aid in expeditious landings and departures for pilots.

although this does take away the realism this makes sense i guess

There’s obviously a few factors mentioned here.

Many controllers and pilots do try to replicate as close to real world procedures and if we know an airport has construction and such, can replicate such if traffic lets us.

I like to follow realism as much as possible and my expertise is more for the US airports. I’ll follow current procedures if the atis is available

Not all controllers drill down that level of detail, and i even admit if i control internationally there are areas I’ve been messaged by other controllers or pilots on to do a certain procedure and if i can accommodate i will

Traffic at some airports however is too high to close down runways or follow certain procedures. Egll is a perfect example of this as they normally do one runway for deps and one for arrivals but that just isn’t always possible on IF

My advice to the realism crew is follow it as much as you can, know that ifatc may do something different. More often than not you’ll get what you ask for if it’s possible to accommodate

Even if people did view the real world ATIS, they’d leave the runway open for an non-knowing pilot to land/take-off on.

View this for further context:

I see your point but to be honest there is never traffic at DFW 🌚😔

Yeah. Only when it’s the featured hub

But i will say you’ll see @Thunderbolt and i running realistic procedures at LAX. 24L closed while it is, 380’s taking off 25L only

And he taught me the right taxi routes lol

Haha sounds like fun, I am so glad DFW is back to normal
