Got another installment of Ultra-Low-Cost Friday for today’s flight! When I was flying from Portland to Los Angeles on Monday, I got to see a suspiciously familiar Frontier A321 at PDX’s C Gates. After a cursory check of FlightRadar24, it confirmed my suspicions that the aircraft I saw was, in fact, the A321-200 we have in the sim. This put it towards the top of the list for flights to do this week. I tried to replicate it as closely as possible, so finger crossed you all enjoy reading this report!

Waiting to board on a fairly overcast morning at LAX’s Midfield Concourse. Since returning to Los Angeles International Airport after briefly pulling out, Frontier Airlines has been using the Midfield Concourse, with passengers checking in dropping off their bags, and clearing TSA at Terminal 1, taking a shuttle bus over to the former facility. Otherwise, it’d be a really long walk.
Lining up on the taxiway after pushing back from Gate 221. It’s a pretty overcast day here at LAX, and unfortunately, the weather isn’t likely to be much nicer up north.
Taxiing by Terminal 2 and its variety of Delta Air Lines narrowbodies and Delta Connection Regional jets, plus a lone LATAM Airlines Brasil 787-9 that arrived a few hours ago from São Paulo. Our captain has told us that we’re first in line for takeoff at the moment, which is a plus.
Departing LAX’s Runway 24L via the SUMMR2 SID. In the background, we can see that traffic is bumper-to-bumper on the 405 for some reason.
Leaving the South Bay as we climb out of LAX. We’re going to follow the Pacific Coast Highway north to Oxnard, then turn in over the coast and follow the San Joaquin Valley and the Sierras to the Oregon line.
Got a snack and a water, which we got nickel-and-dimed for, as is par for the course with ultra-low-cost carriers. At least the cheese tray we got was good.
Once again, we’re descending near Mulino with Mount Hood in the background. After battling a fairly stiff headwind, our flight is coming to its conclusion.
Landing on Runway 28L at PDX. Despite the gusts on final, our touchdown was actually quite smooth. Kudos to the flight crew on that one!
Turning into the alleyway between Concourses D and E and B and C with the ever-present sea of Alaska Airlines tails at the latter. Besides Frontier and Alaska, T2 is also home to American Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, and JetBlue.
Deplaned at Gate C16 on a typically overcast morning in Portland. While there are more comfortable ways of flying between LAX and PDX, Frontier was the cheapest option this time around and the service was actually decent on this flight, all things considered.
