Pushing back and getting our engines started for our departure from Seoul, the capitol and largest city of South Korea, also known as the “Land of the Morning Calm,” a term coined by Percival Lowell in his book about the Korean Empire, “Chosön, the Land of the Morning Calm,” published in 1888.

We started our takeoff roll, but at about 80 knots, the pilot realized they may (or may not) have forgot to load up enough fuel…

Our second attempt went much better, and we got great views of the stunning layout of ICN.

North Korea looks actually kinda nice… Not that I’d want to visit, but it looks pretty enough

About to cross over China’s east coast, near the sprawling port city of Yantai.

As we cruise across China’s countryside, lunch is served. On today’s business class menu is a delicious stir fried beef in a spicy hot sauce.

The seatbelt sign comes back on as we cross the Gobi Desert, which stretches all the way from Gansu Province of China up into Mongolia.

Turning base on our arrival into Ulaanbaatar. Mongolia is known as the Land of Eternal Blue Skies, as it has over 300 sunny days a year.

Thank you! Mongolia is really underrated. I’d highly suggest checking it out in IF (if you haven’t already) at some point.

The government would like to know your location.

Nice pictures @Mort, I don’t fly in Asia much mainly because I fly using real time and most of the time it’s dark there so there’s not much to see. Although I am thinking of doing long hauls back to Japan though so I can explore more of Japan.

voted for pic 9 (no bias :) ). do you think you departed ICN before or after me? I didn’t notice anyone else headed for Mongolia until 30 min from touchdown

Amazing shots @Mort ! I’ve just realized that I need to fly to Mongolia thanks to you!

lovely pics!

Was the “Morning Calm” in the title intentional or an accident?

I actually just realized that you decided to call that based on what Korea was called in a book, but one of KAL’s mileage programs is also called Morning Calm. Also did you take off from the wrong terminal…?

Intentional. South Korea is also known as the Land of Morning Calm.

I’m guessing it’s related.

I don’t think so?

Brace yourself

Which terminal did you depart from? I’m really nitpicky about these things haha

I get it - I’m like that with MSP. Looks like I used T1
