Today was a very emotional day for me, my last day of senior year and last day of high school in general. After this, I won’t be attending classes anymore and only need to come back next Friday to do some final things and pick up my cap and gown for graduation
To kind of “celebrate” this milestone, I decided to go do some plane spotting as it’s been a while since I’ve done so. I wanted to spot at my home airport of West Palm Beach, FL ![]()
but soon decided not to given I’ll probably spot there on graduation day as it’s not too far from where the ceremony will be held. I’m also too lazy to drive all the way down to Miami ![]()
to that’s not an option so where does that leave us? Fort Lauderdale! ![]()
This spotting session will be a mix between exciting and upsetting, for starters I haven’t spotted here at FLL in 2 years since December 2023 and the most obvious, Spirit Airlines, the airline who called FLL home ceased operations almost a full week ago. So now let’s get into this spotting session and see how weird FLL gets without Spirit. Before even arriving at the Greenbelt Viewing Area which is the primary sporting location for action on runway 10R/28L, I stopped by terminal 4 to check it out and sure enough, it was a GHOST TOWN. A place full of hustle and bustle all of a sudden abandoned. Little @NonStopsAviation hack for you, when flying out of FLL on JetBlue, American or any other airline which uses terminal 3, T3 is connected to T4 within security so if the TSA lines are long at T3, head on over to T4 and you should be good! Anyways enough of that, let’s actually get to spotting!
Airport: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Intl
(FLL/KFLL)
Now that Spirit Airlines is gone, JetBlue is now the number 1 airline here in the 954
From Airbus to Boeing, we have Caribbean Airlines 737MAX8 service from Port of Spain, TTO
Back to the “Airbuses” and I put that in quotes because this really isn’t an Airbus, it’s a Bombardier C Series 300. Anyways this JetBlue flight is coming in from Nassau, BHS
Now back to the true Airbuses, JetBlue A320 coming in from Cancun, MEX
Another JetBlue A320 coming in also from New York but this time the state capital of Albany
Time for some departure action! Here is that same Caribbean Airlines Boeing 737MAX8 from earlier now taking off for to return to POS!
Allegiant Airlines is a very unique airline, connecting small random cities in the United States
With Spirit gone, Frontier Airlines is now the countries largest ultra low cost carrier and here is one of their Airbus A320s heading off to San Juan, PRI
For this entry, we’ll be summoning the man, the myth, the legend @Mort as his favorite airline, Sun Country uses one of their Boeing 737-800s for a charter flight up to Toronto, CAN
Closing this spotting session is yet another JetBlue A320, this one will be heading up the coast to Raleigh/Durham, NC. Remember this airport being filled with yellow banana planes? Well now it’s full of Blue!
That will be it regarding this bittersweet spotting session here at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and I hope you guys enjoyed it. Stay tuned for the end of this month as we go on a well deserved vacation for finally making it through high school and as always between now and the next time, see you in the sky! ![]()
