Launched in 1974, the Puente Aéreo is one of the busiest routes in the world. The air shuttle between Madrid and Barcelona has over 25 flights per day going in each direction, operated by both Iberia and Vueling. This week’s Friday Night Flight celebrates this long-standing flight connection between the two cities, with both Barcelona and Madrid acting as dual hubs for the week.
To further enhance the dual hub aspect of this week’s event, all established routes will go via one of the two hubs. Barcelona based routes will stop at Madrid and Madrid based routes at Barcelona. Hopefully we shall get a lot of traffic shuttling between the two airports!
Both airports are large and with numerous gates. You can check gate sizes and space prior to landing onn LiveFlight. A large number of smaller airports will also be open in the surrounding area. These airports are open at IFATCs discretion and make up a handful of the established routes for the week. You can find the list of airports at the bottom of this post.
