Friday Night Flight: Operation Hercules - 100600ZAPR20

It’s time for Operation Hercules. Spanning multiple countries and aircraft type, this week’s FNF is a training mission for the joint security of the nations involved. This exercise focuses on the C130, but sorties include the A10 and refuelling aircraft.

A host of military airports are operating as joint base hubs for this week. Each sortie will arrive and depart from one of these airports. Supply flights and troop transport between/to/from any airport is permitted. At all airports, no commercial traffic will be permitted this week. Only the following aircraft are permitted at FNF airports:

  • C130 (all variants)
  • C17
  • All fighter aircraft
  • KC-10

Please note no other aircraft will be permitted at any airport. This means no USAF B737 and B747. IFATC will not issue warnings for aircraft breaking TFR rules due to highly sensitive military airspace in use. 300KT IAS speed limit for all aircraft in TFR airspace including fighters.

The MTOW of the C130 is roughly the same weight as which of the following?

  • Hubble Space Telescope
  • Ed Force One
  • Space Shuttle
  • The London Eye

Lovely military theme! GAF-EAF will provide a tanker or two, look out for the MADRAS callsigns.

You know what would make this even better? A RAAF C130 😉

Is it just me or do anybody else not understand the topic in detail? Like what are we supposed to do and what time on Friday?

thanks

You can fly one of the outbound sorties listed above or do a local flight around controlled airports as specified in the post :)
You can do the flights any time you please at the given airports from 0600Z Friday, when the ATC will become active.

but only with the specified airplanes right? And how to refuel other players using ATC?

anyways thanks

Only fighter jets, C130s and KC-10s will be permitted inside the TFR (those red rings on the map that impose restrictions). You can refuel as normal - you won’t need ATC as I assume you will be refuelling outside of active ATC areas.
