Friday Night Flight: End of an Era @ YSSY/KSFO - 060600ZDEC19

Join us for this week's FNF!

Happy Friday everyone! This week marked the end of Qantas’ B744 routes to the United States. With a 47 year history flying from Australia and the USA, it is certainly a feat to be admired. The B747 routes are now being flown by B787s and A380s. So, without further delay, enjoy this week’s Qantas B744 themed #fnf.

Both YSSY and KSFO will be hubs. You are welcome to fly any aircraft between any open airport, within IFATC restrictions, however, we urge you to hop in the QF744 and fly this famous route! Both Delta and United stopped their B744 service in 2017 and 2016 retrospectively, however a good alternative would be to fly these aircraft this week if the QF744 isn’t for you!

For established routes and all the airports, see further down this topic.

What special snacks were given to PAX on this week's final flight?

  • B747 themed cupcakes
  • B747 shaped mints
  • Special Qantas cookies
  • A piece of a 10ft long Qantas B747 cake

Eh, okay I guess. Would have been nice to see a small airport featured along side we can open, as some of the bigger ones are lame. Hobart would’ve been a cool addition.

I appreciate the feedback, but each week it’s ‘oh but what about this? Why didn’t you do this?’.

I have already considered that and IFATC will have a sub list for smaller airports, if the larger ones are all staffed.

A very cool FNF.

It would be amazing if we had the blue tulip and battleship liveries for United in the 744, which are the liveries that United had for the majority of the time they were using the aircraft on this route (and both are also vastly superior to United’s current paint scheme).

Let’s see here… set that to FL390… set that to 300kt…

sigh
Time to leave my phone at home…
