For those who're aspiring to become an IFATC Controller!

Hello IFC community!
This post is dedicated to those who are throbbing to join the IFATC team, and may inspire and start a drive for others.
Probably most of the community don’t know me, i don’t post regularly.
So I am Oliver, from Australia and currently doing a RPL pilots licence.
Now to the exiting part. How i started my journey to become an IFATC member and perhaps why you should join!

  • What is IFATC:
For those who have just joined the community forums, IFATC is a team of well trained, dedicated Air traffic controllers. IFATC control on the expert server, where they enforce realism, proper sequencing, all the way to vectoring for an ILS approach.

  • Why you should consider IFATC:
Becoming an IFATC controller doesn’t mean you’re an IF nerd. It helps develop skills. Such as awareness… Joining the team in my opinion is worth it for the following reasons: You get trained to control, You are the boss, You can give feedback to others (giving feedback on tracking threads), and you wont get trolls. Controlling as an IFATC member is, well, nervous at first. But you get kind of use to the loads after a while

  • How you can get to be apart of the IFATC team:
IFATC is not too hard to get in, it just depends if you’ve done some research about basic controlling, OR have watched Tyler’s videos.
I started by contacting a trainer for “training”. luckily our time zones were 1 hour apart, so we could train during hours we would usually be awake at.
After a while i took the theory test (passed). Then a while after i did the practical test, passed with ease (apparently), and then you’re in the team.
After then i was allowed to control Class Charlie and Delta airports.

  • Worries from stopping you:

  1. School, control in your lunch breaks (jokes), jokes aside, i know controllers who can only control maybe 10 times a month because of school, or university. Education first!
  2. I’ll make to many mistakes! Sure, everyone makes mistakes, i made a couple. You can only learn from making mistakes. If you have questions you can ask. Now that we have Replay mode you can go back and look on your session and see how you can improve.

Now as an IFATC Specialist, when you look back over what you’ve done to get where you are, it’s worth it. Not because you’ve completed 2 tests and trained, because it’s fun, you meet new members.

  • For those who are wanting to control on the expert server here is a tip!
Everyone controls differently, so don’t control how someone else controls, control how you like to control. Just make sure you’re doing the job properly!

Hope to see more people joining the IFATC team soon!
Good luck to all those who are training currently!
If you have any questions regarding certain ways to control, or have questions about controlling my door is opened, or you can seek a trainer or recruiter.
