For those who like Star Wars!

I was doing this flight yesterday from KDFW to KAUS I noticed something interesting about name of the waypoints for the STAR and Approach at KAUS!

Yeah some areas of the world feature symbolic or just hilarious waypoints. Let me look up what Star Wars has to do with Austin.

Edit: I’ve got nothing. Maybe it’s just there but the location is not relevant.

This is so cool! STARS and fixes are typically named after landmarks or features they’re near.

Boston has some awesome ones;
All sports teams
BRUWN5
CELTK5
REVSS4
PATSS5
SSOX5
Food:
LBSTA6
CHOWDR
Other places:
JFUND5
HARVD

There are so many more but these are the ones I know off the top of my head. I love finding cool STARs and SIDS around the world!

The US Army uses callsign JEDI as I’ve seen callsign JEDI01

Yeah Kansas City KMCI has SPICY BARBQ RIBBS, which lends to the barbeque culture that is deeply ingrained in Kansas City

-GOLLM
-FRDDO
-BGGNS
-MORDR
-GONDR
-GNDLF

I never noticed that…there are some clever waypoint name sequences in the US.

Oh you could say I like Star Wars…

They could’ve used a five letter word from SW instead of botching a four letter, like DARTH, VADER, or PHSMA

That’s a university not a place

Just like for BWI, where there is a waypoint called TERPS for University of Maryland

they should rename this STAR as ā€œWARRS4ā€ or something
ā€descend via the STAR WARRS4ā€ damn I’d love to hear that IRL.

and if it was a solo flight all the better.
