Setting course due west towards Adak

Snack time over some gorgeous glaciers and glacial lakes

Almost to the start of the Aleutian Island chain, over ‎⁨Iliamna Lake

Crossing some very uninhabited islands

Starting our descent into Adak!

Dipping down into the low cloud deck

Fighting heavy crosswinds on final approach

Touchdown!

Welcome to Adak, America’s westernmost commercial airport. Adak is so far west that it’s significantly closer to the capital of the nearest Russian Oblast, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, then it is to its own state capital, Juneau.

Great report and pics on this underused route, served with some fun facts on the side! :raising_hands:t4:

that view is magnificent i must try that route someday. so underused.

The sheer variety of scenery is astounding.

Thank you!

Yes, the whole Alexander Archipelago is breathtaking! A lot of really fun airports there - Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka, just to name a few.

Thank you! It’s pretty cool how many unique things there are about Adak:

  • They’re the last place to vote in US elections because of how far West they are
  • Adak is the only city in Alaska with a majority Asian-American population
  • Adak is closer to the nearest Russian Oblast capital then it is to it’s own state capital

You definitely should check Adak out! The weather is often pretty challenging - windy and low visibility.

Is it a Visual Approach into Adak?

Love love love flying in Alaska especially out the Aleutians way and Kodiak. Anchorage to Adak is such a fun route with beautiful scenery and some what difficult approach with Fog and turbulence, hopefully someone will make it 3D :star_struck:
