First time flying to Ushuaia

As the title implies, this past weekend I crossed off another bucket item, flying the southern most city on the globe aboard Aerolíneas Argentinas’ B737 max 8! Coincidently, this was also my first time flying the airline, which means I actually crossed off 2 bucketlist items!

Being the southern most city in the world, Ushuaia gets very unquiqe tourist traffic, which most natoriously includes people coming to ski in Patagonia and Antarctic cruises. Becuase of this, the airport is served by Argentina’s 4 biggest airlines to 8 destinations across the country, including the route I flew from El Calafate!

Flight Info

Airline: Aerolíneas Argentinas (ARG)
Aircraft: Boeing 737 max 8
Registration: LV-GVE
Departure Airport: Aeropuerto Int’l de El Calafate – Comandante Armando Tola SWC
Arrival Airport: Ushuaia – Malvinas Argentinas Int’l Airport SAWH
Flight Time: 58 mins
Altitude: 37,000 (FL370)
Speed: Mach 0.80

After an amazing week exploring El Calafate and the surrounding area; climbing the perito Moreno airport, swimming in El lago Argentino, and all, it’s time to head to Ushuaia for another week of exploring! After a quick security and a snack at one of the airport cafe’s, our bird LV-GVE had arrived from Trelew – one of Argentina’s many costal cities!

Boarding seemed quick despite there being 100 pax aboard. It was quick taxi and soon we were taking off and climbing like a rocket (4,000 vs according to FR24) with El lago Argentino’s gorgeous blue waters saluting us goodbye!

Turning SE after depature with El Calafate just off our engine and El parque nacional los glaciares off in the distance!

Reaching our very brief crusing altitude of 37,000 ft over the small Argentinan village of San Gregorio as drinks are served. I decided to enjoy a comfort of home and have a Coke.

No more than 10 minutes later, we are on our descent into Ushuaia, passinf over El lago Escondido and Garibaldi Pass!

Approach about a 15-18 mile final for runway 25.

Short final with El parque nacional tierra del fuego in the back ground!

Buttering as usual just a bit short of the touchdown zone.

Time to say goodbye to our beautiful max 8 as it gets catered for a 3.5 hr flight back to Buenos Aires!
