So a couple of days ago I bought IF pro and I decided that for my first flight, I was going to recreate a recent flight I took in January of this year, American 1421 KMIA-KCHS, using an A319. After practicing once in a free flight with 5x speed on an A220 (and crashing on landing 🫡😭🙏) I decided I was comfortable enough to make the flight on the casual server.
I’m not sure where I started at KMIA but I taxied out to Runway 9L, the same runway we took off from IRL.
Takeoff was normal. No issues here, except that maybe I rotated a little fast.
“Wow, I can’t believe I’m actually in the air and not crashing!”
It was at this point on climbout that I decided to engage the autopilot. No, I’m not very confident flying yet, how could you tell?
Apparently, in my pure shock that I had finally figured out how to fly without crashing, I forgot to retract the gear. Shortly before taking this photo at 9,000 feet (!) I retracted it 😳
I leveled at 35,000 feet over South Central Florida a few minutes later. Cruise was great and smooth, mostly because of the autopilot (lol), and I was satisfied to see the aircraft stopping by all of the programmed waypoints.
Now it was time to descend. As I passed over the Florida-Georgia border I began to descend, and I had gotten all the way down to 3,000 feet when this happened;
A small red notice. Some kind of connection issue, I think. Then the app crashed. Stupid rural South Carolina connection!
I was able to reload the flight and land in Charleston but when I went to play back that part of the flight it glitched out every time and the app crashed.
Oh well. It was a nice flight though!
