First airport in the world with a Virtual Control Tower

Remote and virtual tower (RVT) is a modern concept where the communications at an airport is performed somewhere other than in the local tower. (Wikipedia)

Today, Brasov Airport in Romania opened. It can support any aircraft, except the A380. The airport itself is very modern, and you can check out their website by searching brasov airport on Google. Anyways, the airport has no tower at all. This is because the control tower is somewhere else, but not at the airport. What do you think about this concept? Let me know!

Just to clarify - this isn’t the first airport with a remote control tower, many already exist such as at London City Airport. :)

This is a very interesting concept. I can see how this can be helpful in the fact that they don’t have to build a physical tower. Thanks for sharing! :)

My bad. Still a very nice concept tho. But the Brasov Airport site says its first for some reason.

Yeah. There are a few operating out there. KFNL here in the US is the only test site at the moment and it’s been operational for a few years.
