Finnair & Finavia invited us to Finland for the ultimate snow-how experience! We went behind the scenes to learn more about how they keep things running smoothly in extreme winter conditions.
Day One: We flew out to Helsinki on Finnair’s little A319 from LHR. After a few twists and turns at the airport, we ended up on a private airside bus that brought us to a special lineup of snow-clearing vehicles arranged by Finavia. That wrapped up day one… most of it was spent traveling, so the real action kicked off the next morning.
Day Two: A 6am start saw us heading straight into a full-motion A350-900 flight simulator! The goal? To experience what it’s like for pilots flying in snow and icy conditions. We took the A350 for a spin in and out of Helsinki Airport.
After the sim session, it was time to catch our next flight, this time to Ivalo, Finland’s northernmost airport, located well inside the Arctic Circle. No sign of Santa , but there was a whole lot of snow and some serious snow-clearing machinery in action!
