i was very fortunate to be able to get to the airport during this crisis and see the final flight of the 747.
a crowd had gathered at “the beach” to watch the queen make its last commercial flight, even the ranger came to have a look. As they say the first day is the easiest because you have something to do, cry and its all the rest that are hard as you just remember. https://photos.app.goo.gl/ht4quvYKpKCjUbYd8
i was fortunate to fly on VH-OEI when it was painted with go the wallaby’s with the awesome @Adam to brisbane from sydney on one of its farewell flights
the QF 747 has been a huge part of how Qantas has operated and from 1979-1985 they only operated the 747 family.
VH-OJA he longest delivery flight from London to Sydney at 20 hours and 9 minutes it also has the record of the shortest delivery flight of a qantas 747 Sydney to Wollongong, the flight time was just 12 minutes. the aircraft now lives at HARS and i can tell you its worth it doing a day trip there!!! and if you haven’t gone definitely make plans too!
The 747 will be missed but id also like to bring a positive to this. with the 747 going it opens up new possibilities for new and more incredible aircraft like the A350
