Yesterday (June 27th 2016), Martinair’s last MD-11, the PH-MCP, made its final landing on runway 36R at EHAM.
Only the flight to Victorville remains.
I was there to see it touch down and was able to take some great pictures.
It seemed as if the sun specially came out to be able to give this MD-11 one last warm welcome home.
It’s the end of an era with this beautiful aircraft and it will be missed.

No, the Martinair MD-11. FedEx, UPS, Lufthansa Cargo and Sky Lease Cargo are the only commercial operators left :-(

Oops, I meant Lufthansa Cargo. KLM used to operate them :-)
Martinair is part of KLM.
The official name is “AIR FRANCE KLM MARTINAIR Cargo”.

Martinair now has only one 747F left.
KLM Cargo has three and they are leased by Martinair.
It says “Operated by Martinair” on the KLM Cargo aircraft.
So just 4 747’s left.
They will be phased out around 2020.
I guess that will mean the end of Martinair as well. :(

Most likely because it was converted from a passenger MD-11
Sometimes passenger variants are switched over to cargo, but most of the time it is because it’s just the fuselage of the plane, it can be expensive to get rid of them with aerodynamic costs, tests, faa certification, just too much for something that doesn’t matter.
The legendary MD-11 is a beautiful plane, it’s sad they are retiring the plane😥 But definitely are very nice photos. Good photos Jan! I still remember the KLM MD-11 flying to PTY from AMS.
