One thing I’ve always missed in mobile flight sim is feel. You can see the runway and hear the engines, but the second your wheels touch down it goes quiet — no bumps, no rumble, no sense of the surface rolling under you.
So I tried something: using the haptic engine that’s already in your phone to actually feel the ground. It’s part of a companion app I’ve been building (SkyYoke) that connects to Infinite Flight over local Wi-Fi and turns the phone into a yoke/throttle — but this particular bit is just about touch.
What it does:
- As you taxi, roll out after landing, or bump across the grass, it reads your speed and ground state live from Infinite Flight’s Connect API.
- That becomes vibration in your hand — a fine rumble on smooth asphalt that grows with speed, something coarser over rougher ground, and a clear thump the moment you touch down.
- Slow to a stop at the gate and it fades away to nothing.
The part I like most is that it needs nothing extra — no wheel, no motion rig, no USB hardware. Just the phone you already own and IF on the same network. I genuinely didn’t realize how much I was missing that feedback on taxi and landing until it was there.
It’s still early and I’m sure the “feel” isn’t perfect yet, so I’d honestly love input from this community: what should different surfaces feel like — asphalt vs. grass vs. that one taxiway we all know is rough? Happy to answer any questions.
