Feature Request: Rudder Trim

Overview

I would like to request the addition of a Rudder Trim feature in Infinite Flight. This would greatly improve aircraft handling, especially on cruise, and approaches, it can bring realism, and precision especially during longer flights and asymmetric thrust situations.

What Rudder Trim Does

Rudder trim allows pilots to apply a constant rudder input without continuously holding the rudder control. In real aircraft, this is essential to:

  • Counteract engine torque and P-factor

  • Maintain coordinated flight during engine-out or asymmetric thrust

  • Reduce pilot workload during climb, cruise, and long flights

  • Improve directional stability, especially in crosswind conditions

Why Rudder Trim Is Needed in Infinite Flight

Currently, the only workaround is to:

  • Apply rudder input

  • Open the map (or another interface)

  • This allows the rudder remain at that deflected position

This method can somewhat simulate rudder trim, it has several limitations:

  • :cross_mark: Not precise or adjustable in small increments

  • :cross_mark: Not realistic or intuitive

  • :cross_mark: Difficult to maintain consistency

  • :cross_mark: Breaks immersion and workflow

Because of this, maintaining proper yaw control especially on longer flights with strong winds aircraft becomes unnecessarily difficult, autopilot working hard to keep the plane on route with sharp aileron deflection inputs and this behavior brings more drag.

Benefits of Adding Rudder Trim

Adding a dedicated rudder trim control would:

  • :white_check_mark: Increase realism and alignment with real-world aviation

  • :white_check_mark: Allow precise and repeatable adjustments

  • :white_check_mark: Improve aircraft handling and comfort on long flights

  • :white_check_mark: Eliminate the need for workaround methods

  • :white_check_mark: Enhance overall flight experience for both casual and advanced users

Conclusion

A Rudder Trim feature is a small but highly impactful addition that would significantly improve realism, precision, and usability in Infinite Flight. The current workaround shows there is already a need for this functionality, and implementing it properly would be a major quality-of-life improvement.

Thank you for considering this request.
