Farewell ZBHH: Capturing the Final Moments of Hohhot Baita International Airport

Last summer, I had the chance to capture these photos at Baita International Airport (ZBHH) in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, China. This airport, which has served the region for decades, is set to officially close on November 27 this year.

Hohhot Shengle Airport, a brand-new 4F-class international airport with dual runways, will take its place. We’re all looking forward to seeing this new airport come to Infinite Flight in the future!

Let’s cherish the final moments of ZBHH. Enjoy the photos!

I like it but I think move it to Real World Aviation category since it’s for real world aviation too

How to move it? I did not find this topic when I try to post.

Since you are Trust Level 1, you can’t move it into that category nor can you post there. You need to be Trust Level 2 in order to do so

Okay. Even when I try post this, there is no choice called spotting or real aviation. Just general, support, ATC, and some other choices

Yes because you are Trust Level 1, those will become posting options once you get to Trust Level 2

Maybe someone helped me last time since my last post is under that category

You’re photos look stunning nonetheless 🤩

great photos! it looks like such a modern terminal too, is there a reason why it’s closing? it also looks like it serves so many airlines, surprises me!

not sure if I misinterpreted the topic so let me know

The Chinese love to build grand projects, even if they are not so necessary. This can be said about Chengdu, Lanzhou, Qingdao and others

Main reasons:

  • The airport only has a single runway, so the capacity is limited. Currently with the annual passenger number over 10 million the peak hourly traffic is reaching 30 aircraft/h. This also applies to other single-runway airports like Xiamen, Lanzhou and Qingdao (Liuting). They’re definitely necessary!
  • The airport is located too close to the city, limiting the expansion of both the city and the airport. So that rules out the option of adding more runways/terminals.

The new airport is located 30km south of downtown with 2 runways initially and space reserved for future expansions. We have plans to add this airport in IF if all go well!

I’ve seen a trend across many Chinese airports and it’s the “n” shaped terminals. Is there any reason or is it just popular?

拍的好帅呦 😄👍👍
