A TOPGUN (One word, all caps) F-16N Viper departing from and arriving at NAS Miramar. These aircraft were the ultimate in Red Air, being stripped-down F-16s optimized for BFM, and the Navy and Marine Corps flew them ragged, routinely exceeding 10 Gs as they took on Hornets and Tomcats over the high desert and the Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, the strain of both exceeding the suggested 9 G limit and the tempo began to show within a few years, as jets began to develop stress-related cracks. Things got so bad that a TOPGUN class in 1991 (Again, one word, all caps) got canceled due to a lack of flyable aircraft. The writing was on the wall then for the small, specialized NAVAIR Viper fleet. The last -N left Miramar in 1995, VF-45, the West Coast Reserve squadron that operated the type alongside The School itself, stood down in 1996, and Mirimar itself was handed over to the Marines in 1998, ending a brief but exciting chapter in Naval Aviation.

Powder blue F-16N on approach, presumably into Mirimar.

Community, please consider this great plane for a rework.

It would be nice to have another high quality fighter in the game (we currently only have the F-18 & A-10)

I was hoping to see the pic of the recently presented two sitter B. This one doesn’t count since it won’t fly, it’ll be used as training material for ground crew. The As should (hopefully) start arriving at the end of 2025, when the RDAF replaces their F-16s for the F-35.

Viper Demo East F-16C ripping through a turn at the 2005 Naval Air Station Oceana Airshow in 2005. Never get into a low-speed, nose-pointing fight with a Hornet and never get into a turn fight with a Viper, one of the few continuous 9-G machines out there, i.e. pull into a 9-G maneuver and your ability to stay conscious will fail before the airframe does.

I believe we have the Charlie version in Infinite Flight. Now, presumably the same variant would be reworked, but if the same strategy is applied as the F/A-18 Hornet, the decision would be made by a community vote.

The C is the most common worldwide and most export variants are just de tuned C’s, the C would provide the most amount of liveries and some minor changes could be made for certain countries such as conformal fuel tanks or different weapon systems
