Eye of the hurricane

Instead of trying to takeoff or land in hurricane force winds, takeoff at an airport with reasonable winds, and try to find the eye of the hurricane.

I did it a year ago or so, and the weather model accurately set the winds to calm once I found the eye.

This would be a much more practical undertaking on Expert.

I found the eye earlier today. 17kts in the center.

I’ve gone in the C-130 and flown at 0kts GS. It’s pretty cool cause you travel exactly with the hurricane.

I believe a GS of 0kts would mean you were pretty much at a hover, thence not travelling with the storm. Lol

I meant TAS, not GS. Good point though!

Went for a flight in the hurricane earlier, the speeds ranged from around 8kts (eye) to I believe around 175kts.
