Extremely Low FPS with new tablet

Hello All,

About 2 months after I fell in love with IF and hurt my eyes playing it from my phone, I recently purchased a new tablet primarily for playing IF. Yet I am very surprised that I can get about 10 FPS with my tablet (all graphic settings at Low and AA off) while I could consistently get about 30 FPS while playing from my phone (graphic settings at medium/high, AA off). The weird thing is the new tablet (Redmi Pad Pro / 8 GB ram / Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 / HyperOS) is significantly stronger than my phone. For reference I can run Aerofly FS Global consistently at about 60 FPS with Ultra graphic settings. I have read several threads but couldn’t find anything that solves the problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

First Welcome to the community !

Can we have more details about your issue ? (Which airport, traffic at that time, building density…).

Unfortunately the snapdragon 7 Gen 2 is a middle market CPU. And I know that snapdragon always struggle with openGL (graphics engine). Heat can also have some impact on your performance. Aerofly FS run on Vulkan that can cause a significant difference in term of FPS.

Hello and thank you for your reply.

As far as I can see it happens regardless of the airport. Have tried taking off/landing on several remote airports (with or without 3D buildings). Basically the game always starts at about 30 FPS and when I start switching between views the FPS start deteriorating. I noticed also cockpit view of Cessna reduces the FPS much faster than the cockpit view of other airplane. Regardless of the plane or the view though the flight usually settles on about 10 FPS. I can feel the tablet mildly warming up but nothing I’d consider extraordinary.

Just checked and saw I didn’t select Vulcan but run Aerofly with OpenGL. Also I don’t know how comparable it is to IF but I can run also RFS with acceptable performance. I understand that the tablet may not be the ultimate gaming device but it seems to struggle extra with IF.

Just wanted to update something else about this problem, don’t know if it may prove any useful: I realize that FPS falls only when the screen is rendering a portion of sky. For instance if I view the airplane from above, and the ground below (or solely the cockpit and the ground) I get full FPS, but if there is sky on the screen the FPS decrease to 10 regardless of graphic settings or the weather; FPS falls even it is night time and there is nothing being actually rendered besides some stars.

Hey!

Sorry to hear.
Unfortunately, Xiaomi devices are notoriously known for not being the best when it comes to this and part of it has to do with them looking great on paper but their bandwidth (transfer rate) between the CPU and GPU is terrible. Something we use quite a lot

But - your FPS is unusually low. Especially since other Xiaomi devices with lesser specs are performing better.

Is your device heating up a lot or anything else happening here in between?

I can’t say it heats up a lot, maybe gets slightly warm. I am also new with tablets, maybe I should get a software to measure heating?

As said above it feels strange that the tablet runs Aerofly FS at ultra settings with about 55 - 60 fps (also with OpenGL)

Don’t know if it means anything but I’ve put my tablet through benchmark test via the app “PassMark performance test” twice and at both occasions the “OpenGL ES using Unity” was measured at 30.8 FPS.

Also, can anyone recommend an Android app to monitor performance/heat while playing IF?

So my Xiaomi phone with worse specs (Mediatek Helio G99) runs the game pretty smoothly (>30 FPS at high settings) and my tablet with clearly better processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2) barely gets 10 FPS at low settings, while being able to run much more demanding simulators easily. I really hoped we could find a fix but this sounds like poor optimization to me. Sigh…

I was facing the same issue when I realized IF had occupied about 20GB of my storage because I downloaded too many planes or/and too many airports.
This was leading to a lot of FPS drops and making the game unplayable

So I simply cleared my user data and cleared the cached. Maybe you can try this and let me know if it works
