1. What’s your favorite region to fly in, and why?
2. Do you prefer short-haul, long-haul, or casual GA flights?
3. Got any pro tips or cool routes you’d recommend?
Feel free to drop screenshots from your recent flights too—I’d love to see what everyone’s been up to! Let’s keep the spirit of aviation alive and continue exploring the skies together.
My favorite region to fly in is Hawaii, followed closely by SoCal. The scenery in Hawaii is beautiful, and the flights are short (I prefer short-haul). When the winds pick up, it can make for some challenging landings.
That sounds great! I agree, Hawaii has some incredible views, and the shorter flights really make it a perfect destination for a quick, scenic adventure. SoCal is also a great choice with its variety of airports and landscapes. Challenging landings definitely keep things interesting, especially when those winds pick up!
That sounds amazing! I completely agree – flying over mountainous regions during sunrise or sunset is such a breathtaking experience. The scenery looks so dynamic with the changing light. Do you have a favorite mountainous region to fly over?
Thanks for the suggestions! I’ve actually done KDFW-OMDB, but I haven’t tried KATL-KABY yet as I mostly stick to long-haul flights. I’m definitely open to giving it a try, though! Appreciate the input!
Thanks for sharing! Arlanda is indeed a stunning place to fly—great choice! Short hauls and GA flights are perfect for keeping things fun and fast-paced. Also, totally agree about the YouTube videos from the IF team; they’re super helpful. Do you have a favorite route from Arlanda you’d recommend?
Great suggestions! LEBL sounds like a fantastic option for a longer flight, and ESSV would be perfect for something scenic. I’ll have to decide based on how much time I’ve got. Thanks for the ideas!
For long haul flights, I always love flying between NZ/Australia and Southeast Asia (Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok etc.). For ultra-long haul flights, which can hit more than 20 hours, I enjoy flying between Asia and South America.
While I am definitely more of a long haul fan than a short haul fan, I do enjoy flying short hauls over mountainous terrain which often comes with stunning view on approach to airports, or flights which follow coastlines which are often stunning!
If I had to recommend a specific route, I would probably recommend NZAA-VHHH, since you get to fly out of beautiful Auckland, usually over the East Coast of Australia, which is amazing, West Papua where there is a good amount of mountainous terrain, and the Philippines, where there are lots of beautiful islands.
Thanks for sharing your favorite routes and flight preferences! I completely agree—flying over mountainous terrain and coastlines adds such a unique visual experience to the journey. I’ve flown NZAA-VHHH before, and it’s truly an amazing route with diverse scenery, from Auckland’s beauty to the East Coast of Australia, West Papua’s mountains, and the stunning islands of the Philippines. I’ve also done a few Asia to South America ultra-long hauls, and they’re such a rewarding challenge to plan and complete. Do you have a favorite aircraft for these types of flights?
