When executing a go around when should i turn if not instructed by atc? what do i say to tower after announcing go around? when do i switch to approach? how to navigate back to runway using atc?
Good questions.
Assuming there’s no conflict with traffic on your downwind, turning after passing the departure threshold of the runway is fine. If radar is present, consider flying runway heading to make it easier for them to slot you back into the arrival pattern.
Nothing, if you plan to attempt another approach. Tower will either provide a sequence or send you to radar for resequencing.
Do not switch frequencies unless instructed to do so by tower.
If you’re remaining with tower, fly a standard traffic pattern and obey your given sequence (if applicable). If you were sent to radar, follow their instructions as you would with a normal approach.
Advise if you have any other concerns. Happy flying!
Assuming atc doesnt say anything after acknowledging go around, do i make a request for vectors ? If yes, to tower or approach?
If approach is active, request a frequency change. Otherwise, stay in the pattern and await further instructions.
I would note that it’d be very abnormal to not receive any messages. 99% of the time, ATC will give you directions within a minute of you calling your G/A.
