Excessive fuel consumption issues in A350-900

Hi everyone, is anyone else experiencing issues with fuel consumption lately?

Yesterday, on a flight from Kuala Lumpur (WMKK) to Mexico City (MMMX), I had to make two stops. Previously, I was able to fly YSSY - EGLL (approx. 11,000 nm) nonstop, and I have completed the Kuala Lumpur to Mexico City route before in the 777-300ER without any issues. I really don’t understand why the fuel burn is so high now.

I decided to track the consumption closely, and here are the results:

13:23: 127,890 kg

15:23: 89,724 kg

That’s a consumption of 38,166 kg in 2 hours.

That averages out to 19,083 kg/h total, which means 9,541 kg/h per engine.

However, the flight display shows an average of 2,700 kg/h per engine. Why is there such a huge discrepancy? Is it normal for it to be burning 9,541 kg/h?

It’s worth mentioning that I’m only carrying 80 passengers and 2.5 tons of cargo, so it’s definitely not an overweight issue.

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated!

Did you use AP+ at all during this period? If so, there is a chance that it is an AP+ fuel burn issue. On a few long haul flights, a friend of mine has had to make stops due to extremely high fuel burn on AP+ in the A350.

If not on AP+, it’s possible that you may have accidentally dumped some fuel. Can’t really think of any other possibilities there.

Hi! Yes, I am using the AP+, but it’s worth mentioning that this has never happened to me before. I haven’t closed that session (it’s been running for 90 hours), and I’ve had much longer sessions without ever encountering this issue.

However, this only started yesterday. I started the session on Monday, and on similar flights, I’ve never experienced this. It’s as if the fuel level drops very quickly from 100% to 50%, but from 50% to 0%, it continues to decrease gradually without any problems. :melting_face::melting_face::melting_face:
