Good afternoon everybody from Honolulu, Hawaii 🏝️🐢🌺 where today I will begin the long journey home to Miami 🏝️😎 on American Airlines with this first long haul flight being on the Boeing 777-200ER over to Dallas DFW and than continuing on to MIA on of their Airbus A321s I’m glad your joining me along on this trip! Leaving Hawaii is never easy since it’s literally a DREAM to be here but with the promises the summer has even with a bigger trip in like 3 weeks, it won’t be that bad. Anyways once I got to Honolulu airport, I had to put my bag through a harmless agricultural inspection as with everyone else returning back to the US Mainland. It didn’t take long and I was soon checked in and thanks to pre check, through security as well. Now like I mentioned many times due to the tropical weather a lot of the Hawaiian airports have outdoor sections and HNL even had a nice cute garden as well to the point I lost my mind figuring out where I was till I heard some planes taking off and smelt some fresh jet fuel. But I bought some snacks and ate a decently sized lunch since even though this is a long haul flight, judging from my inbound flight to HNL on American I don’t think we will get that big of a meal service but now it’s off to gate C2!

Taking me on this red eye flight to DFW will be a N794AN, a November 2000 built Boeing 777-200ER making it 23 years old at the time of this flight and fun fact we’ll not really. On November 21st, 2023 this B772 was performing a flight from Barcelona, Spain 🇪🇸 across the pond to New York JFK 🗽🍎 when the crew decided to divert to London Heathrow, UK 🇬🇧☕️ due to a hydraulics issue luckily this was only a repositioning flight so no passengers were onboard and hopefully this doesn’t happen to us but since I am writing this now it didn’t so we were safe but let’s board this troublesome bird!
Once onboard you will be greeted with the very familiar 37, 1-21 configured Safran Concept D seats making up Americans flagship business cabin. Behind that is the tiny premium economy cabin with 24 Collins Aerospace MiQ seats arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration and behind that are the remaining 212, 3-4-3 arranged Safran 5751 Slimlines making up main cabin with the first 3 rows on each side and an extra 4th in the middle column in both sections being sold as main cabin extra providing extra legroom. My seat for this hop over to Texas 🤠🌵will be 24A the second to last row in the first section of economy class. There was a water bottle waiting for me on the seat so that’s definitely a plus but other than that, it was pretty much what I expected, I have flown AAs B772s many times at this point and I generally like the hard product it offers but how will the soft product be, Will it be better since it’s a red eye or worse since the flight is shorter? We will see soon but for now it’s time to pushback for DFW!
We will actually be taking off from HNLs runway 8R this evening which is commonly referred to as “the reef runway” due to it being on a coral reef, it was built in 1977 to expand the airport and the airport even has a runway 8W for sea planes!
Till the next time Honolulu!
Whatever you do, if you ever fly out of HNL sit on the LEFT SIDE of the plane it’s not guaranteed but most of the time you will greeted with this view over Honolulu with Waikiki and Diamond Head and see other parts of O’ahu! 😍 but it’s time to kiss Hawaii 🏝️🐢🌺 goodbye and continue east back to the mainland!
We climbed up to FL350 and the crew began the meal service as quick as they could because this is a shorter flight and we might want to sleep on it so what did we get? Well we Turkey Cobb sandwich, Maui styled potato chips and a cinnamon brownie.
THATS IT
Not even a beverage service like what? Luckily I had the water bottle to drink but it’s still stupid. But luckily there was still a beverage service maybe like 15 minutes after my “meal” arrived so I got myself a coke. While the meal was great, I still find it insufficient for such flight and I’m wondering will we even get a small snack service before landing or is this all we get? We will see about that. But I’m getting pretty tired so I’m gonna go to sleep but before I go, the crew also didn’t seem to social they weren’t rude or anything but weren’t engaging but it’s to be expected with a short red eye flight but the show must go on so 2 stars here ⭐️⭐️ but now it’s truly time for bed!
Now I woke up a bit south of Amarillo, Texas 🤠🌵 maybe an hour away from DFW and the crew came around with their final “meal” service which was basically the normal service you get on a US carrier in economy when flying domestically or short haul internationally, and it was the typical biscoff cookies and choice of beverage which I went with apple juice 🧃 since it was too early for soda. Once again a poor service for a long haul flight which shows AA need to change things up asap on their Hawaiian flights. I didn’t feel like going to bed again so I sat back and watched The Bing Bang Theory will eating my “breakfast” these seats are equipped with Panasonic eX2 AVOD IFE system with live TV along with the aircraft having Panasonic high speed satellite Wi-Fi for a fee in which I once again chose not to buy.
Soon enough the captain came on and said we are getting closer and closer to DFW and we would begin our descent, I got up to use the lavatory shortly before the seatbelt sign came on signifying that we’re pretty close to Dallas but I couldn’t see much outside anyways since it was early morning so I’m just going to cut to being on final for DFWs RWY 18R!
Welcome to a pretty dark but early morning Dallas Fort Worth airport! Now once again I hate to say this but American definitely disappointed on this flight not on the hard product side but the soft product with the “meals” once again being the main culprit for this, once again despite it being a domestic flight it’s still a long haul 🤷♂️ and the things is you can go on a flight from JFK to Paris CDG, France 🇫🇷 also on AAs B772 which takes around the same time as HNL → DFW but there you will get a significantly better meal service while not the best definitely miles better than this and I find that extremely stupid. So AA for sure isn’t the best choice to fly with when going between the mainland and Hawaii.
We disembarked into DFWs terminal A gate A34 and my next flight to Miami 🏝️😎 will be leaving out of the D gates and I don’t have too long of a layover so I might as well get there but make sure to stop at a Starbucks or a Dunkin’ Donuts for a slightly better breakfast than what AA gave me on this flight. But hopefully you enjoyed my review of Americans Boeing 777-200ER service from Honolulu, Hawaii 🏝️🐢🌺 to Dallas DFW, Texas 🤠🌵 stay tuned for tomorrow as I post the finale of my Hawaii trip on a flight on AAs A321 from DFW back to MIA and as always between now and the next time, see you in the sky! 😉👋
