IRL, do pilots need to request engine start to ATC after push back?
Depends on the airport
That I know of I don’t think so but it may depend on where you are.
Like comercial airports,
It depends on the airport
I’m ganna say probably and depending on their parking location also
why does it depend on the parking space?
Some airports have wide enough areas where you wouldn’t affect anything when you start up
Usually depends on the airport. In some airports you are cleared for push & start (i think it’s the great majority) but there are cases in which you are just cleared for pushback, in those cases you must request the ATC for permission to fire up the engines if they didn’t mention it before.
This may not be for all airports, but at my local airport, engine start is controlled by the pushback driver… Although different airports may have different policies
