Enable Access to the User Guide and Main Website From Community Homepage

Have you ever wanted to open the user guide from the community, but you have to go all the way back out to the main website on a new tab to find it? I’m suggesting that we add a few extra options at the top of the community page to access the user guide and home page to make it much quicker and simpler. It’s a simple suggestion, but one that would surely make checking the user guide more efficient. Let me know what you think.

Hmmm… maybe pin it to the top of the “Meta” category? Or the “General” category? Like how the rules and regs of Features is pinned there?

I’m not sure if Discourse would let you have more options under the sub-menu apart from “Latest” “Top” and “Categories.” I could be very wrong though.

I was thinking something similar to how you could access the different categories of the community; you could use the category searcher and just add a small “user guide” or “home page” section to the list.

Possibly!

As of now, it’s pinned to the top of the #ground-school category (at least the updates).

I was thinking it would be useful to have a header link as they do at https://infiniteflight.com/

It would be easily accessible to all users and they don’t have to look around the categories

That works too! I’d just like a simpler way to get to the User Guide from the community homepage.

This looks like too much for me personally, but I won’t mind if it will be in the drop-down menu you get when clicking your avatar

Well this is a bit late, but glad to see this get integrated. Thanks Misha!

We’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time. It’s not exactly what we want but okay for a first version. Our options are a bit limited with discourse.

Awesome Jason. I can’t wait to see what it looks like when it is where you want it to be.

This new feature is awesome especially for new users who don’t know that these awesome places exist. Thanks!

Not sure how I feel about the change. On a 13 Inch macbook screen it occupies almost 30% of the screen horizontally and takes a lot of space from the title (about 45-ish percent). Hope there is a way to make it optional

You sure about that? Refresh and try scrolling. Only the user guide link stays. The rest disappear on scroll. And no, it’s not optional.

Thanks, after a reload stuff indeed started disappearing after scrolling. Also sorry for the optional thingy, meant to write that hopefully there would be a way to make it optional

I think that would be a feature creep we probably don’t need. This is helpful for newer users which should take priority.
