I found this article very interesting as there is newly found information that has lead the authorities to make this decision.
The impact is not yet know but is sure to affect travelers. If you or someone you know are traveling to the U.S give them a heads up to contact their airline.
RJ posted a very cryptic release on their twitter this morning. Those electronic devices can be checked but not brought onboard. Lots of instability with regards to policies for travellers to the United States at the moment. I can’t imagine business travellers being too happy with this decision, this can lead to losing billable hours for consultants that work on the plane.
Specially with some batteries exploding… This is definitely a move made to help the current administration’s ban on travel to people from certain countries.
Has anyone in charge of making this decision ever actually thought about this for more than 5 seconds? What’s the point of requiring something be checked if it’s illegal to check it? Ever heard of a battery fire before? It’s a whole lot easier to contain a fire in a carry-on than one in a cargo hold somewhere, hence why the Li-on batteries inside electronic devices are banned from checked luggage, and you can’t just pry open your computer/iPad/etc. to take out the battery.
I’m sure it would be easier to maintain if one were to explode. Less casualties from the explosion itself. Also, as far as I’m concerned, there is more security checks in a checked bag than there is in a carry-on bag.
