El Al BUSINESS CLASS Boeing 787 Dreamliner TRIP REPORT

El Al 787-9 Business Class

Miami To Tel Aviv

Welcome to this very special trip report! This is my first time in business class and I am really excited! Today I am flying from Miami, Florida to Tel Aviv, Israel, on an El Al Boeing 787 dreamliner aircraft!

!

By flying business class, I got access to the LATAM Business class lounge! It was really nice and I would’ve been happy to spend more time there! This flight was taken on March 5, so the coronavirus was just starting to ramp up, so we wiped everything down and took the proper precautions

Even though being a South American airline, they still had some kosher foods available for all passengers flying to Israel! There was also an ice cream bar, and some great views of the apron!

Boarding was very chaotic and disorganized. The flight was delayed just over an hour, and the set boarding time from the delay was wrong, and we actually came down when they were boarding Group C, so all business class passengers were boarding late. In the end, it wasn’t really a big deal, as we had to sit on the plane for an extra hour to wait for some passengers arriving on a delayed (of course it was American… duh) flight from São Paulo. Those passengers will then transfer from American Airlines to El Al.

Sorry for the bad picture, but it’s hard to get great views of aircraft in Miami. Anyway, in the background you could see my aircraft, 4X–EDJ! This is a Boeing 787–9 aircraft!

As you can see, the leg room is quite good. The footwell is large enough, and the seat is very soft.

The flight attendants soon came by my seat to take my pre departure beverage order. I chose orange juice! And I may have had plenty more of them throughout the flight.
Again, I said may not did lol.

The video entertainment screen was quite large and offered decent selection. It was catered to all ages, but it seemed hard to find the right movie, but I am very picky.

!

When coming into a business class seat, it’s good to have lower expectations, that was definitely the case for the food, after seeing the points guy review the El Al Boeing 747. You can find that video here. If you didn’t decide to take 15 minutes out of your day to watch that, let me sum it up for you, he spit out the food. However, with my experience I found the food to be quite good actually. It was just enough food, and I found it to be very good. The breakfast, is another story, it was large in size, and it tasted well… Not so good. It was definitely Tolerable, but not so appetizing.

Now, to sum it up, I found El Al’s business class To be very good. The only part that was disappointing was the breakfast. I also found that it was very annoying that the crew locked the 787 windows shut the entire flight. After speaking with the community after the flight, I realize that this is a common occurrence on most 787 aircraft. Now, I don’t want to start at 787 versus A350 debate, but, for aviation enthusiasts, The Airbus A350 May be the way to go if you want to take a look out the window. With that being said, I would 100% fly El Al Business class again, and it was a very memorable experience. Below you will find a picture of my arrival into Miami. Little did I know, that the Airbus 380 would be retired with air France just a few months later. If you enjoyed this, please let me know. I want to do more flight reviews and I have plenty of more pictures from experiences in the past!

Try editing the post, deleting the images that aren’t uploading correctly, re-upload them, and give it a few minutes for everything to fully show up

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed reading it!

Some people pmed me to ask, And I said it in there, but this flight was taken on March 5, and I was in seat 2A or 10A (Different aircraft in their fleet have different seat numbers even though the seat is in the exact same spot and in the exact same layout IDK why LOL)

Interesting report, thanks for sharing.

In general I’m not a fan of these dimmable windows, I think most people prefer the traditional ones. The controls usually wear away making it look tatty and the crew can lock them and take away your access to great natural views. I hope the A350 doesn’t ever get them installed, I suspect it’s inevitable with the B777X however.

I agree. I do not go by the saying I do NOT go by the saying “If it’s not Boeing, then I’m not going” I personally will take Airbus or Boeing, But I may want to avoid the 787 because of those dimmable windows. The aircraft was incredible, but I enjoy looking out the window, and it got really boring when it was noon and it was completely dark in the cabin. And I completely agree, I hope the 777X doesn’t get them.

As much as dimmable windows may get hate for, they do have one useful feature, which is that when the crew takes over the dimming function, it takes away the possibility of having that one person who leaves their shade up all flight

I totally agree, but I feel like when everyone’s window is down and there is “that guy” if they were a respectful person, they would roll the window shade down. also , on aircraft like the A350, The crew can just ask to close the windows, rather than force closed. That way, you could crack open the window for just a second to see what’s outside.

That’s the beauty of eye mask/shades. There are still many sources of light in a cabin anyway. I think the negatives far outweigh the positives personally.

The technology is available for any manufacturer to use besides Boeing now so I’m hoping that they don’t jump on the band wagon

I agree. I hope Airbus doesn’t make the A360 (maybe… that sounds weird to say lol) with those.

Very fair point. I will admit that I found them to be fun and gimmicky at the start, but now, the classic slam down of the window shade still beats pressing a button

I agree. I thought It was the coolest thing, but I also find a little tint on the windows even when they are fully open

I have edited the photos to make them all the same size.

Did they lock it where you couldn’t see anything at all?

Yes. We could not see anything the entire flight except 5 minutes after takeoff and 10 minutes before landing. On a 13 hour flight. No one sleeps for 13 hours.

That’s ridiculous that’s why I try and avoid the 787
