Hey guys so I was just wondering if anyone has ever had the same issues with the ILS on this specific runway? So I was on my way to intercept with the glideslope and when it finally did I turned APPR on. The issue is when I do that the plane doesn’t respond and just stays still in the air so I have to disengage APPR and manually fly. Yes I engaged APPR on the right runway and yes this has happened to me multiple times on multiple aircraft so I was just wondering if there’s something wrong I’m doing? Maybe there’s specific conditions I’m missing in regards to this specific runway?
The general trick to engage the APPR is to descend to -500ft or -1000ft of the target altitude for catching the glideslope. If you descend to the target altitude, e.g. 3000 ft on top of the cone = 10nm from the touchdown zone, the APPR tends to miss the slope, meaning it will stay in the air at the target altitude, cause you’ve described it as a persistent issue across multiple aircrafts!
Appreciate the reply but I haven’t had any issues with APPR missing the glideslope except on just this one runway. I think I forgot to clarify that when I turn on APPR on this runway, the plane won’t respond to both the glideslope and the localizer so it just stays there stable in the air. If I accidentally did equip the ILS for RWY 9R instead, wouldn’t the APPR try to turn and intercept with RWY 9R instead?
Let me test it in a live session. But ss given in the reply above, thats the most probable outcome for APPR to not intercept or catch the glideslope.
Hes saying his plane just stands still, like frozen in time and space, even misses it the plane should atleast keep flying. Or atleat i think thats what @Von means
Hehehehe yeah so I recreated the approach scenario and equipped the ILS on RWY 9R while on approach to 9L and it stayed still our hypothesis was right all along it’s kind of funny though how I only get it wrong on EGLL and nowhere else.
You learn a thing or two everyday! Hope it helped you in any way!
What I love doing with the ILS autoland goes like this…
Once cleared into the cone I look at the rwy alignment and when the plane starts to intercept I activate the LNAV that must be set to Nav1 via your nav page which basically gets you somewhat aligned with the rwy on the ILS.
Normally Radar likes to send you lower then the 3⁰ Glide Slop (GS) so since your established on the LNAV you look at your altitude and the green diamond that is the GS.
You basically want that diamond on the centerbar almost (a little higher is ok) and then you activate your APPR and your wanting to see LOC GS meaning the plane has captured the Localiser and is on the GS and will now fly down on to the runway without you needing to lift a finger until your down on the runway.
(just make sure you have your airspeed set to the correct landing speed)
