Hi all! I am currently waiting to take my practicals test and I am now open at OPIS Tower and ground on the training server!! Come by to do some pattern work, request runway changes, request transition so I can test my atc skills and know which area I need to improve.
You did a very good job ATCing! The only feedback i give is that since Hong Kong Island is basically a mountain, Left traffic departing 07R wouldv’e been better, I had to take a high approach so thats why i swapped to 07L.
The transition was fine, 3000ft i believe is pattern altitude. A little bit of a better options would be 3,500 feet but 3,000 was fine since there was no traffic.
Wow I am surprised I did that well 😅. So the transition altitude for every airport is 3500 ft AGL? I think you meant 07L? Cause you were landing on 07R. Anyway thanks for stopping by!!! You gave me a better confidence of myself as I always thought I couldn’t do it!
add the highest pattern altitude for the field (1500 feet AGL) which would be 2181 and add 1000. We can only give transition altitude in increments of 500 feet and while the safe transition altitude would be 3181 feet MSL, we round up and say transition approved at or above 3500.
I’m not an expert, I made mistakes with my transition. Naro told me this so I copied and sent to this post for your help

I see. So say Hong Kong Airport elevation is 100 ft and I have to add 1500 and I get 1600 and I add another 1000 and I get 2600 so I’ll have to issue a transition at or above 3000 ft?
As we know, the minimum transition altitude is granted at 2500ft AAL (Above Aerodrome Level) Or what is the same, add 1000 to the Jet’s TPA. At VHHH, The exact transition, as you said, would be granted at or above 2600ft.
Problem is that the Infinite Flight ATC interface only counts from 500 (0, 500, 1000, 1500…) So it does not let us grant the TA at 2600.
The safest option would be to grant it at or above 3000ft as we respect the 1000 IFR (Instrument Flight Rules)
But another controversial option, but possible, would be to grant it at 2500. This would be possible as we know that when you request transition, you are flying VFR. Thus, the VFR flight rules apply, and the MVFR (Minimum Visual separation) is 500ft. So, granting at 2500, you still will have a separation between the aircraft that is flying local (on the pattern) and the transitioning aircraft of 900ft that is over the minimum VFR separation.
So yes, technically it would be possible, and it is legit to do, although I always recommend not applying this rule if the airport elevation is more than 100ft ie ( 33ft, 1499ft, 2431ft… will apply, will not apply at 331, 1232, 1299…)
I hope this clarifies a bit this question
Have a nice!
A-LOPEZ Feedback:
In general a good session, it would be great to see you with 3 or 4 aircrafts in the pattern.
Good pattern entrys and clearances.
See you next time. Regards
Hey there!! First of all, thanks a lot for dropping by to test me! Thanks for ur feedback as well and yeah I really hope to see how I perform with 4 to 5 aircraft!
