Duet Display for recording

Hey everyone!
I’m trying to make a ‘trailer’ for Hi Fly.
To do this, I’d have to record the screen on my MacBook. Unfortunately, I don’t have the OS X El Capitan update, still on Mavericks (too lazy) 😑 But I had an idea. Would Duet Display work? It’s an app that makes your iPad work as a second screen for your computer. Could I just drag the screen onto the MacBook screen and then record normally? Or would I experience lag?

Anybody out there with Duet Display, please help me out…

I think you can record your screen on Mac without that software when connected with a cable?

Yeah but you need OS X El Capitan which is two versions ahead of my OS…
