Hello folks, so as I was about to takeoff from RWY 30L Dubai Airport, there was an Emirates 152 Heavy, a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft that was on final RWY 30L after I announced my intention to takeoff. Then as I was already on the runway, I aborted the takeoff where this aircraft chose to land and fly right into my aircraft for no reason which is unsafe and unprofessional especially on Expert Server. If that pilot saw another aircraft on the runway such as me, then that Pilot should’ve gone around which was the proper way to do instead of landing and flying into my aircraft like that. That was a no no, unacceptable and uncalled-for. So I hope that that pilot learns his/her lesson not to ever do that again. This was Emirates Flight 255 Heavy on the B777-200LR going from DXB-BCN.
Aircraft on approach/final have the right of way to land. aircraft on the ground should wait. I don’t think anywhere in infinite flight is it specifically stated (i could be wrong). But it would be courteous of you to wait for aircraft to land, it adds extra workload doing a go-around then reloading the approach. I personally think that regardless if u declared your intentions on unicom, if the aircraft was anywhere on the Localiser (the red beams), you should’ve waited as per ICAO annex 2 "3.2.2.5.1 An aircraft in flight, or operating on the ground or water, shall give way to aircraft landing or in the final stages of an approach to land". Maybe the Emirates flight could’ve gone around instead of landing into you , but to ultimately to avoid this scenario, it would’ve been best to wait. 5 min on the ground at most won’t affect your flight. You can always declare your T/o intentions then wait 5 min for aircraft to land and maybe resend it, it would be fine under Unicom. Also if they just made the localiser beam/ final, they would be approx 8-12 nm from the threshold, you would’ve have enough time to takeoff and get airborne, if they followed standard approach speeds.
Hey sorry you had this happen to you. Unfortunately if a controller wasn’t present, nothing much can be done about this
Yeah, I was even paying attention and forgot that the aircraft was on final. Like I said, if that aircraft would’ve saw me on the runway about to takeoff, that aircraft should’ve gone around to avoid landing and flying into my aircraft which is totally unacceptable.
So unfortunate as this was, you made the first mistake of lining up on the runway while he was on final. As mentioned above, the aircraft on approach has the right of way no matter what. In an ideal world, yes, the other user would have gone around. But let’s look at it from his perspective. He’s on final, has the right of way, and a random user gets onto the runway and then sits there without taking off. From his perspective, he has every right to be very frustrated, and probably decided to just ignore you and land anyways, which honestly, is something I don’t fault him for. In the future, make sure to check before entering the runway, as the aircraft on final has the right of way.
Personally speaking when I’m on final and a plane on ground announces they’re holding short of said runway…to me that’s not only the kind of professionalism I want to see on Expert Service but it’s also very courteous.
Now when I’m on the ground and ready for take off I always check both ends of the runway for inbounds. Especially with low traffic, my threshold for taking off with someone on final is 6nm, because I don’t want to make them nervous about close spacing.
Colliding into you is wrong and the inbound should have done a go-around but maybe think about what could’ve been done to avoid loss of separation in the first place.
Also if you’re open minded to it, consider using 30R as your departing runway…if you fly in/out of OMDB a lot then you’ll encounter a lot of traffic landing on 30L because it mirrors the standard IRL operation.
Sounds like you were in the wrong here, you entered the runway as they were on short final… you should never knowingly enter a runway when an aircraft is on short final, announcing your intentions doesn’t give you the right of way. They probably should have gone around, but you were the one who caused the issue to begin with.
Well let me explain this, so when I generated the flight plan from SimBrief, it said that I was taking off RWY 30L as my departure runway. So for that reason, that was why I was in the wrong. Again, I didn’t pay attention to hearing that the aircraft was on final and made that mistake. So it was my fault and I feel bad for that. I shouldn’t have made that mistake in the first place. It’s my fault and now I’m about to screw this flight up. Now I don’t know what to do. I cannot believe that I made that mistake bro, I can’t believe it
Yeah I know, and I don’t know why I would make that kind of mistake. If I would’ve checked that runway and that aircraft was on final, then I wouldn’t have entered that runway. Now I don’t know what to do, and now my flight would be screwed up. Ugh I hated when I made that mistake
Yep, that’s what I should’ve done, used RWY 30R but chose to make that mistake to takeoff RWY30L. Now my flight has been affected. And now I cannot enjoy my flight with that mistake that I made. Now I’m in a very bad mood
Good point, 100% landing aircraft is priority as they cary less fuel. Although arriving aircraft may have enough fuel to divert or go around it almost seem to be a non verbal sort of communication and standard that arriving aircraft seem to be priority even they carry extra fuel. Also, it is a practice in aviation that pilots check to make sure each time we cross an intersection we check And Verbalize
Clear Right side, Clear Left side. or if it was entering a runway we check approach path clear, and other side (L or R side) clear.
Then we enter runway. I use it in IF and it seem to work in the platform quite well.
Yeah, I know and I messed up. I didn’t check and see if there was an aircraft on final. I’m retarded. I’m just so retarded
Hey it takes guts to acknowledge a mistake so kudos to you! Take it as a valuable learning experience ![]()
Well, I ended the flight because of that mistake. I’m not going to continue onto the rest of the flight because of that mistake. I’m doing a whole new flight with a different aircraft and to another destination
Brother, there’s no point in doing that. Mistakes happen. Heck, I have 30 violations! All of them are from dumb mistakes like not paying attention while descending. But you learn your lesson and move on! There’s no need to beat yourself up about it. It’s a flight sim after all, and no one can get hurt!
Really? If you say so, then I’ll continue the rest of the flight. It’s just that I feel really bad when I made that mistake which was to enter the runway when an aircraft was on final that if the aircraft saw I entered the runway, that aircraft should’ve gone around to avoid flying right into my aircraft as I was about to takeoff
New flight. New Beginning. Safe Flight Captain!
You’re right. You should have waited, he should have gone around. Instead, neither of you did that, and guess what? It didn’t change anything. It’s just a sim, so there aren’t actually any consequences! Just learn from your mistakes and move on. Trust me, it really isn’t a big deal
Well, I changed my mind. I’m starting that flight again with the same aircraft, going to Barcelona since I cancelled it when I was upset about that mistake
The good thing is that mistakes are how we learn, and I bet you’ll never do that same thing again. Just take the extra second or two to take a look at the map and get an idea of the traffic in the area and you’ll be golden. Happy flying!
