Dubai International Airport

(Amend flight plan to include ATC preferred STAR at destination )
I was about to land at Dubai International Airport, but the ATC told me this, even though I have an active flight plan and everything is in order. What does this mean, and what should I do?

You should choose a STAR that is included in ATIS.

Hi there!

It’s do with this:

If you go into the airport procedures list - you will be able to see the procedures which are “ATC Preferred” - change the STAR in your flight plan to one of these.

You can also see the ATC Preferred STARs in the ATIS.

I would recommend having a read through of the following section of the User Guide - it contains everything to do with communicating with ATC:

Sorry, I didn’t understand what you meant. After entering the Dubai Airport menu and selecting it as the approach airport, what should I do next? I couldn’t find the options you mentioned."

  • Click on the airport dot, then the airport tag to bring up the information menu.
  • Go to “PROC” at the bottom (stands for “Procedures”)
  • Click on “Select Arrival”

ATC Preferred STARs will have “ATC Preferred” in green next to the STAR name (see screenshot). Make sure your flight plan has one of these STARs.

Thank you, I’ve done that. Is there anything else, or should I just start and enjoy my trip?"

As long as you have one of the green ‘atc preferred’ in your plan, you should be good to go! Have fun

This instruction seems to be from me, at Center, right? It looks like you’ve learned what to do. When there’s a recommended or required STAR in the ATIS, it’s best to confirm beforehand that you’re complying, which can effectively reduce the workload of ATC and make your flight smoother. If you fail to execute the recommended or required STAR, you’ll likely be vectored to landing.
