Today, Gatwick airport was disturbed by a drone which was flying over the airport. This resulted in many aircrafts diverting to other airports and aircrafts going around and holding. This must have caused chaos for the air traffic controller! The police are currently investigating the situation and hopefully we don’t get any kind of this in the future. A similar incident happened at Heathrow, when a BA pilot reported a drone visible. This is very dangerous and a very serious matter! Currently, now the airport is back to normal operations.
Hmmm, I wonder if drone regulations are the same in the U.K. (maybe someone could help with that) because typically you have to get a license and take some sort of class/lesson about proper drone operations in the US, but maybe that’s just here.
I live in the U.S. and fly a drone. My drone won’t even take off if it is within an airport area. If I take off and try and fly the drone into a restricted airspace, the drone will stop, turn around and come back. Seems like an easy solution, but there are always the yo-yos out there that mess it up for all of us!
We need to hire robots that can shoot down drones or create a drone that kills or shoot down drones. Regular drones are like parasites. And do you know what we do with parasites? We want them OUT! (Anyone get the reference?)
Drones are becoming more and more of a hazard. The idea of a drone is good, but the problem are the idiots, who don’t use common sense while flying them. People like that completely disregard the safety of others, and this unfortunately causes lots of problems.
I think I saw a case similar to this in Ultimate Airport Dubai… and it was really expensive to Emirates, FlyDubai and other airlines… more to Emirates… they should really put a force field around airspace for drones.
