I’m just trying to find some way to make things uniform as possible and I’m just starting with anything. Time, after time, after time, after time, after time I find myself going to JFK and asking for a specific gate and all you have to do is touch the icon on the map and select the first option to send the progressive taxi to that specific gate. Common sense telling me when I get there if someone is already there: HEY! I wanted this terminal and I’ll take these instructions and amend them. My rough thinking which is just rambling frustration and something I know won’t even be considered anyways, but a message (for example) before starting a session: “Notice! This is a Drag and Taxi airport. Please familiarize yourself before controlling these stations by watching the tutorial on Infinite Flight’s YouTube Channel.” Especially the fact that I watch these tutorials because I, firsthand, know how the aviation industry is (Sarcasm) slightly procedural.
Then we need that message for every single thing pilots do wrong. Which is a lot, most expert server pilots are kinda clueless and really test the patience of IFATC, this is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
Thank you for your time! I was going to go in depth about all that you mentioned, but I will respectfully point out the fact that the only thing I am referring to for this topic is the ‘Drag and Taxi’ feature and not what simulator pilots do incorrectly.
I am aware of that. I was using it as an example to basically say that this is something that is really not needed. It doesn’t actually do anything in this specific instance. It could be useful it other instances however. Not this one.
Teachable moment for training server?
I mean when I’m watching and/or listening to LAX live streams, within just the first minute: “Turn left A7, taxi via A to parking,” from the ground controller.
Whilst I like your thinking. Unfortunately, IF can only get so realistic. Drag & taxi is already a great feature, but it’s not perfect. Adding super realistic things like this is kinda impractical. Most pilots don’t even know a lot of the basics, let alone more specific things like this. We do need to keep it somewhat manageable for new pilots especially to navigate.
And I totally understand that just like I am nowhere near perfect and, therefore, life and Infinite Flight is not perfect. Yet, the developers took the (Caution! Being EXTREMELY sarcastic) one or two hours to work on Drag and Taxi for something that controllers should be clearly aware of when they are controlling. (COUNTLESS number of hours to develop Drag and Taxi is more accurate to be abundantly clear.)
Alright, kinda lost on where you’re going with this but I will say. If you want to learn about this stuff, come and join IFATC. ◡̈
So, I mean being aware of the airport you are controlling is pretty airport. I would think at least and being situationally aware is slightly important too.
I mean I’m not a programmer, developer and/or have barely basic understanding of computers. I’m pointing out the fact (using sarcasm) the time it took to develop such a realistic feature that is barely used and easily teachable in a video that is relatively short and so easy to use to make what is already an extremely realistic. A video like that doesn’t need to be more than 3 minutes and 10 seconds.
To add to what Spinalcase said, on TS you’re only going to get so much realism with the controller. If this was on ES then there is probably a reason. Sometimes when it gets a little busier then D&T will slow you down so it might be easier for a couple to just give taxi to parking at your direction. Especially at JFK where it takes a minute to optimize the route for you. I get the frustration though from your end not receiving it. My best advice, if you’re looking for a realistic experience controlling join IFATC or fly on ES.
So, is training server not supposed to be a learning environment?
While it can be used to learn the interface of the system, the pilots on the TS are very unpredictable. If you’re looking for an ATC or pilot experience that is the most realistic that would be on ES.
It is for yourself more or less. The pilots and ATC can be unpredictable, as Mattchew said.
