Do You Think I Can Make It?

I am looking to do a flight from RJBB-SCEL. This flight is over 9500nm and I will either be using the 787-9 or A350. I have flown roughly as far as 8750nm in each on these on IF previously. I am wondering if I should be able to make the flight non-stop and if so should I be using the 350 or the 787. Both of these planes are flown on the world’s longest routes which is why i chose these.

I think you could make it with either plane if you have no payload and max fuel, it looks like the flight time would be around 20 hours.

The A350 has more fuel, but I like the 787 more 🤫

Yes either plane will make although I believe the A350 is more fuel efficient

You should be able to make it with both aircraft, although I would choose the 787 because I like it more. But it is your choice, we all have different opinions.

Thanks all of you for your responses. I took off about 5 minutes ago in the A350. Looking at a flight time of 17hrs (I have a pretty good tailwind).

I can confirm that I made it and that if anyone wants to try it with the 787 it will work as well. I was in the A350 with 22hrs of fuel and landed 18hrs later with 6hrs of fuel to spare. Thanks all of you who gave me information about being able to make it.

Make sure to pack some extra fuel. I find the Pacific can be unpredictable and sometimes have some harsh headwind! 👍👍 both should be able to make it though

Yeah, I just made it (east-bound leg, RJBB-SCEL) and had a pretty good tailwind the whole time. West-bound (SCEL-RJBB) might be a bit more sketchy though since those wonderful tailwinds are now your enemy.

There’s some good websites like Windy.com (I think that’s what it’s called) that can show you what the winds are like. Very useful especially for long hauls

That’s what I was using. I found out that once I got up ton FL330 about 200nm out from Osaka that there was roughly 130kt tailwinds which saved me a ton of fuel.

Yep it’s amazing. I’d probably run out of fuel in half the long hauls I’ve done knowing my luck without it 😂😂😂

i’ve done a 10700nm trip in an a350 so this should be possible - just dont take any pax or cargo and take max fuel

Laughs in can’t do long hauls with the a350 bcs device crashes
