My idea originally came from this thread: Auto pilot take off. I think people under a certain number of hours(maybe 10, maybe 5) shouldn’t be able to use autopilot on live. Except maybe the Casual server. This will help encourage people to learn to actually fly instead of relying on tech to do everything for them. Help the quality of pilots too
I say nay. 👎
This could certainly be interesting but it would actually be someone annoying. People would use LNAV during global and they could grind XP overnight leaving a flight going. A good idea would be after 5 minutes or so of screen inactivity, a popup would say confirm that you are still online and if you don’t answer within a minute, it would end the flight.
You didn’t understand my point. I ment total hours. If you read the post it seems people think its ok to TAKEOFF with autopilot. So until you’ve accumulated 5-10 hours of total time, you will not be allowed to use the autopilot so that you can learn to fly
Well… that would stink because then you have to manually fly for 12 hours when global comes out.
I mean you wouldn’t. Unless you have under 10 hours total on the sim. Its ment for noobs
While I think people should fly properly we can’t force how we fly on too how they fly and even if we could this is far from a good solution but you know what everything good has a beginning
I never use autopilot for takeoff or landing only during cruise. Manual takeoff and landing is more fun and you get a hands on experience so it wouldn’t bother me at all lol
Good point, but if someone flew from say, KJFK to maybe EGLL, the pilot in real life would not steer the plane for what, 8-10 Hours (just an estimate, im sorry if that’s incorrect), they would turn on autopilot for the majority of the flight. What I’m saying is, anyone that would want a transatlantic flight would need autopilot unless they were easily entertained and had no life (Not pointing fingers). I really like the concept of your idea. Plus, even if they did put it in autopilot for that long, there is a very small chance that wind/turbulence could be strong, causing the plane to crash if left unattended.
I think he means for takeoff and landing not cruise that would be torture to be flying your plane manually for 5-8 hours lol :)
One- This is so irrelevant
Two- Global will not work out right with limited Autopilot
Three- No comment
Even worse idea.
Next!
Did you read the post that I linked? Not irrelevant. Especially with the quality of pilots in IF
Also everybody seems to be glossing over the fact this is for new pilots, not all pilots
How in the world does making people under a certain number of hours not being able to use autopilot make them better pilots? Some people like to use autopilot on everything, so they should have the freedom of doing so. And those that don’t like using it in certain areas, or at all, don’t have to use it.
It makes them actually learn to fly the airplane. This is a case in real life as well. Look up Children of the Magenta Line or Air France 447. I’m all for improving tech but you gotta actually know how an airplane flys and how to fly it without automation before you should use that automation
I can understand that they need to learn to fly the plane without tech first, but there has to be a better way then making those under a certain number of hours not being able to use the function.
I’m not liking this idea, beginners are the ones who need autopilot the most
But, not really. You don’t go to flight school and learn how to use the basic autopilot in the 172. You go and learn about what makes a plane fly and about how pulling back makes a plane climb and pushing forward makes it descend. If they dknt understand something they can ask the instructor. Just like how players can ask the community or watch the tutorials mark made
Actually pulling back makes you stall and pushing forward makes you overspeed. If you pull back to climb or push forward to decend your instructor will smack you in the back of the head.
